New York Mets’ Citi Field Embraces Sustainability with Kohler Bathroom Products
KOHLER, Wis. – October 4, 2011 – It took nearly 20 years of planning and three years of construction before the New York Mets could call Citi Field home. The ballpark, which opened in 2009, is the perfect balance of nostalgic design and modern convenience: The red brick and limestone façade pays homage to the Brooklyn Dodgers’ Ebbets Field, and the green seats give a nostalgic nod to the New York Giants’ old Polo Grounds. Once inside, fans enjoy a modern and comfortable amenity-rich game day experience.
“Citi Field is truly an iconic stadium,” says Kohler commercial sales manager Phil Boggs. “The restrooms had to be both durable and sustainable, all while providing game goers the most gracious experience possible with aesthetically pleasing, reliable products.”
And with sustainability at the forefront of the restrooms’ design, the Kohler design team realized Citi Field could be a key player in New York City’s water conservation efforts. Conservative calculations estimate that Kohler’s water-saving faucets and fixtures save 1 gallon of water per person, per game. Over the course of 81 games with the stadium at 75 percent capacity, Citi Field could save over 2 million gallons of water annually—that’s equal to a lifetime of drinking water for more than 50 people.
Citi Field’s restrooms are equipped with the following KOHLER products:
- Insight Gooseneck touchless lavatory faucet with Insight technology
- Caxton undercounter lavatory
- Steward waterless urinal
- Hudson wall-mount lavatory
