KOHLER Ballast Low-Threshold Shower Bases Feature New Resin Concrete Core
KOHLER, Wis. – Jan. 22, 2013 – In a market dominated by tile shower floors, and lightweight acrylic receptors, Kohler introduces a line of shower bases that combine the best of both worlds. Its one piece construction consisting of a resin concrete core and an acrylic surface makes the new Ballast™ shower bases are incredibly tough and sturdy, providing the homeowner with a beautiful, low maintenance product.
"The core construction of Ballast gives consumers a rock-solid feel when standing in the shower," says Tracy Jaeger, Kohler director of marketing for bathing products. "Additionally, the ultra-low threshold makes entry and exit easy and creates a seamless transition from the bathroom floor to the shower space."
Ballast shower bases are manufactured using layers of acrylic top sheet, resin concrete core and ABS backing. The receptors not only have excellent weight and strength characteristics – lighter than cast iron and marble but heavier and sturdier than acrylic FRP – but also offer the visually appealing, glossy surface that acrylic provides. The non-porous, high gloss finish resists discoloration, scratching and chipping for years of hassle-free use.
Ballast also requires no mortar in the installation process, providing a faster, easier and cleaner installation. The one piece construction of Ballast requires less maintenance and reduces the risk of leakage as compared to a tile shower floor. Additionally, while Ballast features a low threshold entry, it utilizes a standard two-inch drain, eliminating the need to recess the drain area. Ballast is available in three sizes to fit typical shower alcoves: 48-by-36, 60-by-32 and 66-by-36 inches.
MSRP: 48x36 $475.00, 60x32: $550, 66x36: $710
