Two leading design-led brands host memorable cocktail tea and private dinner party with celebrity hosts at Design Quarter's (LCDQ) annual iconic event

KOHLER, Wis. – May 9, 2014 – Last night, Scalamandre, America's renowned purveyor of luxury fabrics, wall coverings and trim, and Kohler, a global leader in kitchen and bath design, wowed the design community with two elegant and lavish events as part of LCDQ's Legends of La Cienega - Novel Interiors market event in Los Angeles.

An exclusive cocktail tea event at the Scalamandre showroom, hosted in honor of Newell Turner, editorial director of Hearst Design Group, drew a colorful crowd of over 100 designers, architects and media to celebrate the visual highlight of the collaboration: the extraordinary window design of Tristan Butterfield, Kohler's global creative director, inspired by E. M. Forster's epic novel A Passage to India but interrupted with a twist irreverence and modern wit. Born in Great Britain and inspired by frequent trips to India, Butterfield created lush, dreamlike compositions that combine layers of dusty reds, vibrant and muted pink fabrics and trims adorn the entire façade framed by intricate crisp white Indian trelliswork archways and Indian-inspired truck graphics. Each display boasts layers of Indian tenting, umbrellas, bunting and cushions. Exquisite Scalamandre textiles and trims are paired with soft white Kohler Tailored Vanities, Artist Editions sinks, personalized Artifacts faucets complemented by stone, glass and highly polished marble tops. The windows will be on display through this summer.

"The process of coming up with these designs has been a truly inspiring and exhilarating experience and we hope that our guests and customers enjoy looking at the windows as much as we did creating them," said Butterfield at yesterday's event.

Inside the showroom, a cool palette of mixed blue fabrics and trims, and sun-bleached cream furniture provided a relaxed yet glamorous colonial interior backdrop. British colonial cocktails and Indian hors d'oeuvres were served on silver trays with the scent of burning jasmine candles in the air.

Following the event at the showroom, an exclusive group of guests was invited to an intimate dinner at Tony Duquette's Dawnridge, the lusciously elegant Beverly Hills home of famed designer Hutton Wilkinson and his wife Ruth. Celebrity chef and author Alex Hitz created and prepared one of his renowned signature menus blending Southern comfort classics with exotic Indian accents.

"Dawnridge is one of the most evocative, otherworldly places to simply see, let alone experience and enjoy. So much beauty, so much delight!" raved Steven Stolman, president of Scalamandre."And then to have so many wonderful, talented people all gathered together - it was an extraordinary evening that I shall never, ever forget."
