Kohler Upgrades Classic Kathryn One-Piece Toilet with Modern Technology
Company revamps Kathryn toilet's flushing system to feature AquaPiston technology
KOHLER, Wis. – Nov. 20, 2013 – Recapturing the unforgettable style of a bygone era, the KOHLER Kathryn one-piece toilet now offers consumers a classic design with modern technology. Kohler Co. brings this 1930s style toilet into the 21st century through AquaPiston, the patented flush engine from KOHLER that delivers high-octane power at only1.28 gallons-per-flush.
"The Kathryn collection was inspired by an ensemble of KOHLER products on display in a 1929 exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, representing art in plumbing. It remains a popular choice among homeowners for their bath or powder rooms," says Brian Hedlund, toilet and bidet marketing manager for Kohler Co. "Upgrading the toilet's flushing system is an important example of how traditional styles can remain relevant in today's marketplace, giving consumers both the classic look and improved water efficiency and performance."
The one-piece toilet design provides a smooth transition between tank and bowl, allowing striking details of the one-piece Comfort-Height™ toilet to take center stage. The hexagonal tank lid with beveled corners and recessed design emphasize the Kathryn toilet's understated elegance. A concealed trapway features a smooth surface at the back end of the toilet where the trap way would normally be visible. This facilitates easy cleaning and enhances the design of the toilet.
As an additional benefit to consumers and trade professionals, the new Kathryn toilet is packaged standard with a uniquely designed trip lever and Grip-Tight Glenbury Q3 toilet seat. This KOHLER toilet seat features a Quiet-Close™ seat and lid with Quick-Release™ hinges which allows the seat to close quietly and also unlatch from the toilet for easy removal and convenient cleaning. Quick-Attach™ hardware offers fast and secure installation.
AquaPiston vs. Traditional Flappers
Traditional flappers operate on a hinge, only partially opening upon actuation – limiting their flushing power. The AquaPiston canister lifts completely off the outlet valve, releasing water from 360 degrees around it rushing into the system. The result is Kohler's most powerful gravity-fed flush that virtually eliminates plugging and makes for a longer rinse and cleaner bowl.
To meet ADA code requirements, a toilet must actuate with five pounds or less of pressure. AquaPiston needs only about two pounds of pressure to actuate, allowing an easy flush – a great benefit for households with small children, elderly or those with physical limitations.
