NEW BARBARA BARRY BATH IS A LUXURIOUS RETREAT

KOHLER, Wis. - Classic elegance combines with modern sensibility in A Barbara Barry Suite, a designer bath and powder room created for the Kohler Design Center by nationally renowned designer Barbara Barry.
"It's how we feel in a room that is important," says Barry, the most widely published female designer working today. "Every room of the house should feel good, especially the bathroom because it's the space in which we begin and end each day."
Barry takes this philosophy to heart in designing Kohler Design Center's bathroom suite. Filled with classically elegant pieces from Barbara Barry's collection of bathroom furniture and accessories for Kallista, the room also incorporates coordinating pieces from Barry's line of furniture designed for Baker. Both Kallista and Baker Furniture belong to the Kohler family of companies.
Barry partitions this luxurious bathroom space into separate preparation areas for him and for her, perfect for privacy and personal meditation. Upon entering the suite, both the elegant Carrera marble tiled floor and green walls painted, in what the designer affectionately calls pond scum green, cast a calming effect. On either side of the entrance, his and her vanities from Barry's Kallista collection add personal touches to a shared space. Inspired by 1930s modernism, these vanities feature mahogany bases finished in deep Java, Carrera marble vanity tops and streamlined faucetry in brushed and satin finishes.
Incorporating furniture and lighting makes the bathroom suite feel more intimate, according to Barry. The plush comfort of the round-back chairs she designed for Baker, coupled with the warm light cast from floor and table lamps, transform the suite into a place to relax and let the day's stresses wash away.
The suite's centerpiece is the spacious sunroom with its sumptuous Kallista whirlpool bath - a welcome way to begin or end any day. This island bath design features a mahogany tub surround manufactured by Baker for Kallista, cast iron tub and solid, hand-forged tub filler. The nearby Dressing Table for Her from Kallista, is positioned as a silhouette against the natural light of the sunroom's walls. An exquisite oval mirror rests atop the dressing table, which has a petite basin and vanity faucets located to one side. A étagère, round-back chair, tailored dresser and nesting tables from Barry's Baker Furniture collection add comfort and livability to the sunroom.
Down a hallway, a relaxing rain shower awaits in the suite's custom shower, covered from floor to ceiling in white-honed Carrera marble tile. With a rain-dome showerhead and streamlined spray bars, the custom showering space is as enjoyable to see as it is to experience.
A Barbara Barry Suite compliments the showcase of inspiring kitchen and bath settings that encircle the mezzanine level of the Kohler Design Center. The Kohler Design Center, located in Kohler, Wis., is an innovative design resource and showcase of home products from the Kohler family of companies, including Kohler, Kallista and Jacob Delafon plumbing products; Canac kitchen cabinets, Robern mirrored cabinets, Ann Sacks tile and plumbing products, Baker Furniture and McGuire Furniture. ABOUT THE DESIGNER

Barbara Barry, Inc.
With many design awards to her credit, including the Pacific Design Center 1998 "Star of Design" Award for Lifetime Achievement in Interior Design, Barbara Barry is the most widely published female designer working today.
Born in San Francisco into a family of painters and artists, Barry comes by her casual elegance style naturally. In transforming the homes of Hollywood stars and power brokers, Barry's signature look reflects her appreciation for history, close attention to detail and desire for comfort. Designers such as Jean Michel Frank, Nancy Lancaster and Albert Hadley, inspire her work, as do artists who include Egon Shiele, Mondrian and Richard Deibenkorn. Barry works in a variety of mediums. She designs furniture for Baker and decorative plumbing products for Kallista, both of which are part of the Kohler family of companies; carpets for Tufenkian Tibetan Carpets; office-to-home furniture for HBF (Hickory Business Furniture); fabrics for HBF Textiles; accessories for Baccarat crystal and lamps for Boyd Lighting.
Drawing on her studio's diverse talents, Barry begins the design process by creating watercolors and sketches. Using color, light, texture and design, Barry breathes life into a room.
"Every project reflects the utmost respect for the client's desires and needs," she says. "Above all, rooms must truly embrace those who live and work within them."
Although Barry has worked for more than 10 years in Los Angeles, her design projects span the globe. She has collaborated with many leading architects, and one of her goals as a designer is to develop interiors that are respectful of the architecture and the landscape. Barry has worked on many of California's landmark homes, ranging from a Wallace Neff estate to a garden home designed by Richard Neutra.
